Unearth a Story at UPL! You can sign up for our annual Summer Reading Challenge for children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade starting on June 15. Log your reading progress starting on June 22 through August 31. Explore all the library has to offer this summer and have a chance to win prizes, just by reading!

How to Participate

In order to be eligible for the weekly prizes, you must log in to READsquared and log time that you read that week. A minimum of 1 hour per week is expected. There will be a random drawing at the end of each week to determine the winner(s), who will be notified via email. There will be 8 weekly drawings.

Grand Prize

In order to qualify for the grand prize, a one-year Family Membership to Liberty Science Center, participants must have logged a total of 9 hours of reading time in READsquared from June 22 - August 31. The grand prize drawing will be held on September 1 and the winner will be notified via email. Please contact kids@uplnj.org if you have any questions!

Read 1000 Books!

Sign up for UPL's 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program which encourages families to read 1,000 books with their children before they enter kindergarten. 

• Read a book to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler and log each one using the READsquared website or app. You can also pick up a paper log from the library or use the official 1000 Books Before Kindergarten app! 
• The goal is to read 1000 books before your child starts kindergarten. You can repeat titles as well, so the 20th time you read The Day the Crayons Quit counts just as much as the 1st!
• Come to the library to pick out a special reward for every 100 book milestone you hit. 
• You'll also get an extra special reward once you've read 500 books and 1000 books!

Parents: You can create an account for yourself first and then you can add additional accounts for each of your children. That way you will have the ability to easily monitor your child's activity without having to login as each child.
